HyperXite 8th Iteration of the Pod

June 3rd, 2023 DEMO DAY

UCI HyperXite hosted our first on-campus Demonstration Day to showcase all of the hardwork our team has put into the pod this year! Our team showed up bright and early to begin track set up preparations as well as presentation rehearsals!

We had three successful pod runs, one at low speed and two at high speed, which attendees were able to witness after our subsystems presentations. Our propulsion subteam also showcased their mini linear induction motor (LIM)!

A huge thank you to our sponsors and supporters for helping make this enormous task come to reality! And hats off to our incredibly hardworking team that pulled long nights at the lab day after day to get our pod on the track!

This event marks the conclusion of the 8th iteration of HyperXite! We hope to continue perfecting our pod as we prepare for the 9th iteration of HyperXite!

APRIL 27, 2023: Hyperxite lab touR

Our new management: Jacob Antony (Project Manager), Allen Hsing (Chief Engineer), Chris Whaley (Principal Electronics Engineer) and Anthony Chin (Operations Director) hosted a lab tour for students interested in learning about HyperXite’s history, current team’s workload and our pod development. Attendees got a sneak peak of the internal operations of our team!

April 22nd, 2023 -Celebrate at UCI

Our Project Manager: Elizabeth Chiu, and Chief Engineer, Eric Wang, showcased the pod’s custom inverter, mini linear induction motor, the braking and pneumatics system, stabilization units, and chassis at the Annual Spring Festival: Celebrate at UCI that is meant to introduce academic life to prospective and incoming students.

March 17th, 2023 - Winter Design Review

HyperXite presented our team’s hard work on Pod 8 at UCI’s Winter Design Review 2023. We had a great time discussing our project and showcasing the pod’s custom inverter, mini linear induction motor, the braking and pneumatics system, stabilization units, and chassis! This spring quarter, our team will be finishing up the manufacturing and assembly process and begin testing!

APRIL 2023: DYNAMICS SUBSYSTEM IN-lAB

The Dynamics subteam has been working on the design and assembly of the topside and lateral suspension components. Over the winter quarter, they have finalized the vibrational model and chose our springs and shocks, which they began assembling after ordering all other hardware and machined parts.

APRIL 2023: Pneumatics subsystem meeting

This past quarter, the Pneumatics sub-team has been working to fully assemble the pneumatic system. After calibrating the electronic pressure regulator (EPR) on our test bench, we came to the conclusion that the mechanical pressure regulator (MPR) must be used in addition to the EPR in order to safely down-step the pressure to our desired value. Because of this, we had to make major design changes to the CAD assembly to accommodate the new component. Despite this major setback, we were able to fully assemble the pneumatic system (which included the MPR) before Winter Design Review! We will be testing our system with the braking sub-team in the upcoming quarter.
